What secrets lurk inside a group of wealthy sophisticates who only want a nice, pleasant dinner party? Luis Buñuel’s Oscar-winning classic is one of his signature films: a fiendishly witty comedy bouncing through reality, dreams, faith, sex, and revolution with the lightest and cheekiest touch.

Six upper-class people sit down to a dinner that is continually delayed, their attempts to eat thwarted by events both real and imagined, from terrorist attacks to ghostly apparitions. In their quest for a lavish feast, the line between reality and dreams becomes unclear, and all hell breaks loose.

Fernando Rey, Stéphane Audran, Delphine Seyrig, and Jean-Pierre Cassel head the extraordinary cast of this 1972 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film.

“Is there any greater challenge to the oppressive classes than to disrupt their dinner plans? Buñuel drags his characters through an escalating series of crises and surrealist set pieces, tethered loosely to reality and designed solely to prevent them politely sitting down to eat. Outrageous, searing and at times blasphemous, Bunuel’s brilliantly bizarre satire remains as gleefully anarchic as ever.”
